River Cats 8, Isotopes 7
Friday, May 30
On Friday, for the second time in as many nights, it was Nate Freiman that sent the River Cats to victory over Albuquerque in their final at bat at Raley Field.
This time the Sacramento first baseman provided the RBI single, scoring Andy Parrino to down the visiting Isotopes in nine innings by a final score of 8-7. Freiman finished the night 3-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs.
With a dramatic 11-inning finish on Thursday still fresh in their minds, this one must have been particularly hard for the Topes to swallow. Freiman’s sac-fly to center sent Alden Carrithers home from third base to seal that contest 6-5. The back-to-back wins gave the River Cats the series 3-1 and brought their walk-off victories total to seven on the season.
Sacramento clings to a 2.0 game lead over Reno in the PCL Pacific Northern Division and a 6.5 game lead over rival Fresno (Giants). The River Cats travel to face those Grizzlies in a four-game series beginning Saturday at Chukchansi Park in Fresno at 7:05 pm.
Righty, Matt Buschmann (3-0 4.73 ERA) is on the hill for the River Cats. He faces the Grizzlies fellow right-hander Chris Heston (4-2 3.72 ERA).
