The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train doesn’t officially open to the public until May 28, but some lucky members of the media had a chance to sample it early. Walt Disney World held a special party on May 1 to introduce them to the new ride and let them sample the interactive queue line elements and, of course, the ride itself.
I was among that group, and I took full advantage of the opportunity to ride the roller coaster several times after I’d explored the queue line fun. I also enjoyed meeting many characters, including Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs, and even a special guest. You can see highlights of the festivities in the photos below.
If you’re planning to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on your next visit to the park, I highly recommend grabbing a FastPass+ time if you can manage to get one. It will slash your wait time, and it’s also available for a huge number of other rides, shows, and attractions in all four parks, as you’ll see in this list. If you’d like to see the full dedication ceremony for the mine train, go to this article.
Want to meet all seven dwarfs and Snow White, too? Check out this article, which has my photos with all of them.
These gem barrels are just one of the interactive queue elements for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. One of the highlights of the party was getting a chance to explore the queue. Spin the barrels, make music in a waterfall, and use your finger to “capture” gems as you wait for the ride.
Mine Train Ride
The queue is fun, but the ride is the big experience. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time now as I’ve watched the construction, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not a thrill ride, but rather a fun family experience that combines a dark ride in the dwarfs’ mine with a bit of speed.
The Dwarfs’ Mine
Part of the ride takes you inside the dwarfs’ mine, where you can see them digging for sparkling gemstones and listen to their rollicking tune. Look for their shadows on the wall as you head up the lift hill.
The Seven Dwarfs
Dopey was out for the party, along with his six comrades. I loved getting a photo with all seven of the dwarfs and Snow White, too. Luckily the witch wasn’t lurking around, although she would have been a fun picture.
The Seven Dwarfs were the hit of the party, but there were other fun characters to meet. They wandered around the festivities, enticing guests to sing and make merry to celebrate the evening.
There was a celebrity of another sort at the party: Grumpy Cat! Everyone’s favorite feline meme paid a visit, no doubt to touch base with her favorite namesake dwarf and to greet her fans.
Yum! This bowl of shrimp is only a tiny sampling of the delicious food and dessert spread at the mine train party. There was something to please everyone, from sliced turkey to meatballs to macaroni and cheese.
It’s rare to get alcohol in the Magic Kingdom unless you’re having dinner at Be Our Guest, but there was an exception at the mine train party. These colorful adult beverages are actually red wine, white wine, and tasty Pickaxe Punch.
