Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN) was created as a prayer ministry for the entertainment industry in July 2001. It was birthed out of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood as the third of four Christian organizations launched to reach the media. HPN is a grassroots, 501c3 nonprofit led by industry professionals, seeking to impact our culture for Christ through prayer.
Although many Christians believe that Hollywood is “Sodom and Gomorrah,” Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN) founding director, Karen Covell, views it as a redeemable place, similar to the Biblical city of Nineveh. Ultimately, we want to see God transform the hearts and lives of people in the global entertainment industry, and we believe we must begin with love, encouragement, and prayer. So, HPN was created to ask Christians everywhere to pray for the people, the projects, and the powerful impact of Hollywood: the world’s most influential mission field.
As a defined group of almost 7,000 strong, the Christians working in this mission field are growing as a community and experiencing God’s presence here more than ever before. We encourage industry professionals to see themselves as missionaries, and we are committed to have each one of them covered in prayer by an intercessor outside of Hollywood through our I to I (Intercessor to Industry Professional) Prayer Partnerships and our Incognito Prayer Team. We also host Quarterly Prayer Nights, sponsor Studio Lot Prayer Walks, and put on various prayer events in and for our local Hollywood community.
HPN believes that by mobilizing global prayer, they can be a part of God’s miraculous work of changing the spiritual climate of Hollywood, from the inside out. HPN currently reaches over 15,000 intercessors around the world, many of whom are representing prayer groups, small groups, and churches. With 60 local chapters, they believe that thousands more are praying for the people in all areas of media, from in front of the camera to behind the scenes. HPN invites churches, organizations, and individuals across America and the globe to commit to pray for all aspects of the entertainment industry, including the people, the projects, and the issues in film, television, music, and news media.
HPN contacts its members through Monthly Prayer Newsletters, which include prayer requests, updates, praises and news breaks relevant to the entertainment industry.
If you’d like to get involved with the Washington, DC area chapter of HPN, be sure to attend their next meeting on Sunday, March 9th from 3 PM to 5 PM at Convergence (http://www.OurConvergence.org). The meeting will be in the small historical building at 1819 Quaker Lane in Alexandria, Va. There will be a large Hollywood Prayer Network banner in front.
The local HPN Chapter Director, Chuck Paris, who is also an actor, director, and screenwriter was pleased that the most recent meeting attracted nearly 20 attendees representing the entertainment arts.
“The meetings are for prayers and connecting for projects,” Paris said. “At the next meeting, we will break into small groups (screenwriters, actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, etc.) to share information and prayers, and then join together in a larger group,” he said.
Paris encouraged those who plan to attend to arrive at least 15 minutes early so the meeting can begin promptly at 3 PM and end 15 minutes early for those who want to attend the Taize (http://ourconvergence.org/faith/taize-prayer) service across the street from 5 PM to 6 PM in the main sanctuary.
