Love is a beautiful thing; until it’s not. Many have had to deal with the heartache of a breakup at least once, but there are so many lovers that have little to no experience; in any case, experience never really makes the breakup process any easier– you just find yourself knowing how to rise again after falling. We always hear stories about being dumped, but we seldom find advice on how to dump the one we love.
In this case, you might find yourself questioning why you are still with him. You then answer this question by backing it up with all the reasons why you do love him. Then you quickly realize (again) that you do indeed want to leave him. And it’s a constant battle with the monsters in your head/heart. You have spent a good chunk of your life with him and find yourself depressed with the thought of “throwing it all away.” You have so much love in your heart for him but your gut keeps telling you that his actions, or lack thereof, are no longer tolerable.
You have exhausted yourself with thoughts like:
“I love him, but I know I don’t want to be with him”
“I have been with him for this long already, maybe I can hang in a little longer”
“He’s such a great guy I don’t want to hurt him”
“I can’t do this”
“Yes I can”
“No I really can’t”
You then weigh yourself down with questions like:
“Am I strong enough to breakup with him?”
“What am I going to do without him?”
“Is the breakup even worth the pain, or is it easier to just stick it out?”
What you have to come to terms with is that a breakup, no matter what the scenario, is always going to be painful. One person if not both partners, are going to be hurt–it’s an inevitable outcome. Once you have come to this realization, all that’s left is to take that first leap and dump him.
