You may have missed our announcement a few weeks ago, but if not, you may know that xystwhat.com is teaming up with Secret Solstice Festival in Iceland this year, to bring you coverage on what we’ve already called “the world’s most unique music festival.”
That might be a big call for some, though what Secret Solstice has on its side is that due to its unique location, the sun literally won’t set for around 72 hours, meaning the entire event will experience perpetual daylight.
This may all sound great, but festival organisers say the attractiveness of the unique concept isn’t without its problems.
According to Leon Hill, one of Secret Solstice’s organizers, the startup festival is growing faster than any of them had anticipated. While that’s a result any festival would love, they’re struggling to keep up with demand in some cases.
“For a startup festival, it’s obviously still a learning curve for some of us involved. And being a new event, creating brand recognition is a massive challenge as well.” Said Hill.
Despite some of these growing pains, Hill says it hasn’t dampened the spirits of the team at all.
“What’s completely taken all of us by surprise is how insanely well people have responded so far. With a very small budget, we’ve already sold out our first run of discounted tickets, almost completely on word of mouth.”
“And at times we’ve had our site crash, simply due to the volume of people trying to get information, or buy tickets. For any festival, that’s gotta be a plus.” He said.
xystwhat.com were the first to break news in the United States of the festival’s launch, only a few short weeks ago. On Tuesday, their second announcement of acts was made, bringing their total bill to 70+.
The first full lineup is as follows:
WAZE & ODYSSEY
MY NU LENG
FOX TRAIN SAFARI
DJ FLUGVEL & GEIMSKIP
TANYA & MARLIN
