May’s Loot Crate theme was Adventure and The Friend Zone Soundtrack was a welcome surprise addition. It’s a chiptune, synthesized 8-bit electronic music produced inspired by the sound chips of vintage video game consoles. The accompanying brochure describes the product:
You may not even realize it, but you need friends like the folks over at The Friend Zone in your LIFE. The awesome YouTube show centers around a bunch of friends and awesome guests talking about things going on today in geek culture! Pajamas, video games, Twitter and so much more and you get to have fun with the music from the show!
We listened to the music while we opened the crate, which was a blast…for a little while. After cheerfully shouting out the titles of each tune, my six-year-old boy finally asked me to turn it off. The soundtrack is best taken in small doses, but if you’re looking for a jolt of high-speed chiptune insanity, The Friend Zone Soundtrack will fit the bill. We rated it Okay (3 stars).
