Matthew Perry, aka Chandler Bing on Friends, listed his house at 3556 Sweetwater Mesa, Malibu, California 90265 in the exclusive Serra Retreat community for $12.5 million on May 29, 2014. The property had previously been on the market in October 2011 for $13.5 million.
Modern, sleek, open and bright are just a few words for this unique property. The 5,500-square-foot interior has so many telescoping walls of glass leading to the pool, spa and deck area that it feels like part of the outdoors.
There are 4 bedrooms and 6 baths. On the bottom floor are the all stainless steel designer kitchen with a sink that has an expansive Pacific Ocean view and separate preparation area, a game room for the Xbox and a theater room, both with huge screens. The private top floor entire wing master suite includes a roomy ocean view window seat, a sitting area with a fireplace, and his and her baths. The home was built in 1981 and has been luxuriously renovated in recent years.
On the 2.32 acres of hillside, there is plenty of spectacular outdoor entertainment area for “Friends” and more miles of ocean views from a sensational pool with a television and heated spa, an integrated sound system for the interior and exterior and a two car garage. On an elevated level from the pool within the privacy of mature palms are the fire pit with room for surround seating and a large meditation garden.
Although holding a dual Canadian American citizenship, Matthew Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts on August 19, 1969 so will soon be 45 years old. After mother Suzanne Langford, former press secretary to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and a Canadian journalist, and American actor and former model father John Bennett Perry divorced, Perry grew up in Ottawa and was a top-ranked tennis player.
Perry began his acting career when he moved to Los Angeles and earned some guest TV roles in the 1980s. He has received numerous roles and awards ever since. He was nominated in 2002 for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Friends and played in the film Fools Rush In with his father. His latest efforts are a remake of The Odd Couple and a 2014 British TV debut in the comedy program The Dog Thrower, part of Sky Arts’ Playhouse Presents. Like many other acting stars, Mr. Perry has fought physical battles over the years and worked through some rehab. He testified in Congress in 2012 in favor of drug courts to let offenders get drug treatment instead of jail time and opened his Malibu estate to be used as a sober-living center called Perry House. Plans are to continue the center with partner and addiction expert Earl Hightower in Studio City, a less expensive and more accessible area for those needing the services.
