The month of April is almost behind us and the month of May looms at our doorsteps. As the old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” That is a pretty accurate statement. Another pretty accurate statement is, “The Orpheum Theatre in Memphis has some great events scheduled for May 2014.”

Title: Were Going on a Bear Hunt

Description: We’re Going On A Bear Hunt is brought vividly and noisily to life in this fun-filled stage adaptation of Michael Rosen’s award-winning book. Join our fearless adventurers on their quest to find a bear as they wade through the gigantic swishy swashy grass, the splishy splashy river and the thick oozy, squelchy mud! Full of rhymes and word play, this lively and lyrical stage adaptation features catchy songs and plenty of interactive, hands-on adventure for children.

Title: The Orpheum’s Annual High School Musical Theatre Awards

Description: The Orpheum’s High School Musical Theatre Awards recognizes achievements in all areas of high school musical theatre. This event is part of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards program. On Monday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m., students and supporters from all 28 participating schools throughout the Mid-South will gather at The Orpheum for the final awards ceremony where over 200 students will perform on stage. The Lead Actor and Actress winners will then travel to New York City in June to compete in the Jimmy Awards held at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway.

Description: This 2014 tour will come on the heels of Morrissey’s completion of his forthcoming Harvest Records debut album – the artist’s first since 2009’s Years Of Refusal – recorded in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli. Joining Morrissey on tour will be his longtime band, including Boz Boorer (guitar), Jesse Tobias (guitar), Solomon Walker (bass), Matthew Walker (drums) and Gustavo Manzur (keyboards).
