Pierre Jackson set an NBA Development League record when he scored 58 points in Idaho’s 136-122 victory over the Texas Legends on Feb. 4.
Jackson was 24-for-33 from the field, including a 7-for-13 performance from 3-point range. He also had eight assists and six rebounds.
Jackson, the leading scorer in the D-League with 30.2 points a game, now has scored 40 or more points seven times this season.
Both teams started the game shooting above 50 percent from the floor. After trading buckets throughout the first quarter, the Stampede took a 38-35 lead into the second period, paced by Kevin Murphy’s 16 points and Jackson’s 11. Texas used a balanced offense to keep pace with Idaho during the second quarter and trailed 66-62 at the half.
The Stampede (16-12) pushed their lead to double digits in the third quarter by shooting 64 percent while Texas (15-14) shot 40 percent. Idaho led 103-89 heading into the fourth.
Ricky Ledo, who is on assignment from the Dallas Mavericks, scored 17 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to help the Legends cut the deficit to nine with 1:38 remaining (129-120). Jackson answered with seven straight points – two layups, a free throw and a jumper. Texas finished the scoring with a pair of free throws.
Kevin Murphy posted 39 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Idaho. E.J. Singler added 10 points while Dee Bost dished out 16 assists and came up with five steals for the winners. It marked the third straight game, Bost has recorded 10 or more assists.
P.J. Hairston led Texas with 25 points on 8-of-18 shooting including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Devin Ebanks (17), Mickey McConnell (13) and Melvin Ely (11) joined Hairston and Ledo in double figures. Ledo added eight rebounds and seven assists while McConnell dished out nine dimes.
Jackson, 5-10 point guard, was drafted with the 42nd selection in the second round of the 2013 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers after starring for two-years at Baylor. He was subsequently dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans, who currently holds his rights, on draft night as part of the Jrue Holiday- Nerlens Noel deal.
Jackson was taken with the fourth pick of this year’s D-League draft by the Stampede. Jackson was one of 20 players named to the 2014 D-League All-Star game.
The previous D-League scoring record of 53 points was set by Morris Almond in 2008 and matched by Will Conroy in 2009.
