Springtime produce is arriving weekly at the 2nd Street Market – an especially welcome sight after such a long, cold, snowy winter. Currently, Garber Farms and Hydrogrowers are carrying locally grown asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and radishes, along with the usual assortment of potatoes, sweet potatoes, garlic, onions and carrots. Hydrogrowers features hydroponically grown greens, tomatoes and herbs year round; rhubarb, snap peas and an increasing assortment of herbs and spring greens will be arriving at market within the next few weeks.
Soon the outdoor farm stands will return to the 2nd Street Market. Mile Creek Farm, Hungry Toad Farm and Flying Mouse Farms are returning alumni, and new seasonal vendors will be joining them.
For the springtime gardener, Garber Farms is bringing in hanging baskets and bedding plants, including pansies, violas and several varieties of herbs. Wegerzyn Gardens Gift Shop is offering birdhouses, roosting pouches, bat boxes, gardening supplies and other items to help you welcome spring. They even have nifty, inexpensive adapters for turning plastic pop bottles into instant bird watering stations! The shop is staffed by knowledgeable volunteers who are always happy to help you find just the right item.
Baking some springtime sweets? The Spice Rack carries a beautiful assortment of pastel decorating sugars, real Amish butter, and a selection of nuts and dried fruits. While there, you can choose from a lovely variety of tea and tea blends to enjoy with your baked goods.
No time to do that baking yourself? No problem – Azra’s has the most impossibly gorgeous – and delicious – cakes, cookies and cream puffs imaginable, ready to take home and enjoy.
The PNC 2nd St Market is open Thursdays and Fridays from 11 to 3 and Saturdays from 8 to 3.
