On May 28, Women Rock For The Cure (WRFTC) has announced its date for their annual “Young Survivors Retreat,” a weekend retreat which is geared towards young women survivors and those fighting breast cancer, in an effort to stand together in their journey.
This four-day, inspiring event will take place on October 30 through November 2 at Deer Run Retreat Center, which is located outside of Nashville at 3845 Perkins Road Thompson’ Station in Tennessee.
This is an all-expenses paid experience, which is open to approximately twenty women that are undergoing treatment, or breast cancer survivors who have been diagnosed between the ages of 18 and 40.
What people may not know is that nearly five percent of breast cancers occur in women under the age of 40. These women, who are either in college or young professional or new moms, often have it difficult in finding support and education due to the rarity of this diagnosis at a young age. As a result, WRFTC has developed this retreat as a medium of support for these women, to help support each other during the healing and recover process and connect with peers who can relate to this cause.
The “Young Survivors Retreat” is a great way for breast cancer survivors to discuss their stories and simultaneously make life-long new friends, in a safe and welcoming environment. They can also partake in such activities as art sessions, relaxation, nutrition, fertility, as well as beauty tips.
Beloved music publicist and WRFTC CEP Jensen Sussman, remarked about her experience with the retreat. “Having to face breast cancer as a young woman is physically, emotionally and mentally challenging. For WRFTC to bring together these women from all across the country who share in the same struggles and see how their connection forms a sisterhood of hope is inspiring,” Sussman said.
Over the year, WRFTC raised funds for the “Young Survivors Retreat,” at their signature event “Opry Goes Pink,” which was held at the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. Due to the success of “Opry Goes Pink” and the organization’s generous supporters, WRFTC covers all travel expenses to and from Nashville for the attendees.
